Biography

Arpan Ganguly is associated with the South African Research Chair in Industrial Development (SARchI), University of Johannesburg, as a senior research associate, where he previously completed his post-doctoral studies. Prior to joining the University, Arpan was associated with FLAME University, Pune. 

He has a PhD and MA in Economics from Colorado State University, M.Phil and MA in Economics from the University of Hyderabad, and a BA (Hons) in Economics from the University of Delhi, India. 

His research is at the intersection of International Trade, Macroeconomics of Development, Political Economy and the History of Economic Thought. His current research explores the developmental implications of Global Value Chains, the political economy of globalisation, and global South perspectives on trade. 

He has published in international journals, delivered talks and conducted research for labour rights organisations like the Asia Floor Wage Foundation. 

Arpan has over eight years of teaching experience in India, South Africa and the USA. His teaching philosophy is rooted in heterodox, pluralist and interdisciplinary approach to economics education, emphasising critical thinking and intellectual diversity among students.
