This exploration will step beyond just food and flavours, offering a a window to cultural artefacts such as batuas (traditional pouches) and spittoons. The discussion will also highlight the legacy of Bhopal’s revered Begums and the influence of Catholic traditions on the region’s food culture. From the grandeur of palace kitchens to the vibrancy of street food, the talk will walk us through the regional and seasonal nuances that define Bhopal’s gastronomic identity.
About the Speaker
Passionate about Indian food, Pushpesh Pant switched from foreign policy and diplomacy to food writing and research more than half a century ago. While food remains at the centre of his universe, he, once in a while chooses to comment on Indian politics and International Relations. His book India: The Cookbook is regarded as one of the most comprehensive collections of Indian recipes. Pant’s work often explores the historical, cultural and regional influences that have shaped Indian food, connecting it with broader themes of migration, trade and royal patronage.
