Methods for Evaluation and Impact Assessment

Understand research designs and methods used for making causal inferences about public policy and governance interventions.

In this course, we build on our knowledge of methods from Data, Research Design and Descriptive Methods and Causal and Inferential Methods. Here, we seek to understand the research designs and methods that are used to make causal inferences about public policy and governance interventions. We undertake an in-depth exploration of notions of causality by looking at sampling techniques, list experiments, surveys and randomised control trials used in experimental designs and statistical techniques. We then understand how these methods are used to gauge development outcomes by creating quasi-experimental designs for the evaluation of outcomes.
