Data, Research Design and Descriptive Methods

Study qualitative and quantitative methods used for empirical analyses of policy and governance issues.

In this course we study qualitative and quantitative methods used for empirical analyses of policy and governance issues. The course is an overview of methods for the collection of qualitative and quantitative data through interviews, focus group discussions, and representative surveys, the use and nature of sources of secondary data, and the use of relevant software (‘R’) for analysis. We help you develop written skills for a policy audience (such as policy briefs and position papers) and offer a detailed overview of the techniques used for case selection, case study and research design. Learn how to use narratives, statistical sampling as well as visual methods of data description.
