This is a wide-angle course that offers a view of History as a discipline. You will study its methods, interpretive and narrative techniques, philosophical and ideological standpoints through a look at the histories of India. This is not a course on Indian history. Instead, we understand history as a form of knowledge through a study of India. You will see how history has been written across different contexts and by different groups of people, thinkers and approaches. The course also addresses the confusions around history as an academic practice, a discipline popularly considered useless for making a living but is a vital, democratic site of public discourse. This course will help you answer the question, ​‘Does History Matter?’ (We think it does.)
