From atoms and atomic structure to periodicity of elements to properties and characteristics of compounds, this course will provide overview of various kinds of chemical bonding to chemical energetics and chemical kinetics. The sciences are interdisciplinary and integrate tools, techniques and theories from fields of physics, mathematics and chemistry. Biological function and mechanisms at cellular and molecular levels are dependent on the chemistry of biomolecules and biochemical pathways. Understanding the structure, physical properties and performance of materials also requires an understanding of basic concepts in chemistry.
