The use of state-of-the-art remote sensing has gained momentum in the past few decades with the increase in freely available datasets and advancement in technology. It is widely used in development, conservation, sustainability and public health domains, among others.
This course aims to provide a basic understanding of remote sensing and digital image processing, along with hands-on training on using this technology to investigate various terrestrial applications using the cloud platform Google Earth Engine (GEE). GEE, a cloud-based platform serves as repositories of multiple satellite images and other geospatial datasets for visualisation and analysis on the cloud.
The 5‑day certificate course will help participants to learn the essentials of remote sensing and the utility of GEE for remote sensing analysis. With extensive hands-on training using GEE, participants will learn how to search for different spatial data, visualize, and analyse them. The participants will also learn different insights one can extract from the remotely sensed data for terrestrial applications. At the end, participants will have the opportunity to present and discuss the utility of remote sensing and GEE in their work.
On successful completion of the course, participants will be able to :
- Search different spatial data, visualise and interpret the results in the GEE platform.
- Implement remote sensing analyses in Earth Engine to answer environmental questions.
- Use multi-temporal remote sensing data to find the changes over time in different datasets available
Practitioners, teachers, early career researchers and PhD scholars working in the field of environmental science and development sectors.
The course is intended to be delivered through extensive hands-on sessions with a pinch of theory. Theory will assist in enhancing the knowledge of the basics of remote sensing and its rationale, while the hands-on tutorial will provide exposure to how to use the technology.
The participants will be awarded a certificate of participation after successful completion of the 5‑day training.
