Aiming to make meaningful changes to India’s vast social sector
In 2010, Azim Premji University was set up by Azim Premji Foundation with a vision to contribute to the creation of a just, equitable, humane and sustainable society. This social purpose has been central to all our work of the past decade: from our teaching programmes, research and work in the Field, as well as our institutional systems and processes.
The previous decade has been extraordinarily fulfilling for all of us: teachers, members of our University across functions, and students and alumni. We have built a deep foundation for our institution with teams of 350 people, 3,314 alumni, and reaching over 10,000 practitioners annually through our continuing education programmes, with a rich and vast portfolio of research and publications.
Over the last decade, our work towards education for social change has found deep roots. All of us – teachers, members of our University in different functions, and students – are moved and driven, and motivated by this social purpose every day.
Looking ahead
Our dedication to work towards real change to make a small difference has strengthened and we realise we need to do much more. It is with great excitement that we are looking ahead to greater growth and expansion, to new Universities in Bhopal, Ranchi, and the Northeast.
We hope to have 8,000−10,000 students, and a growing portfolio of programmes across undergraduate and postgraduate levels. We will grow our team to 2,000 people across all functions, with manifold expansion in our initiatives and research for the public good.
