Educational Resources in Kannada

Towards promoting reading, deliberation and discourse in Kannada

Non-availability of academic resources in Indian languages is a major constraint in expanding access to education and ensuring inclusion. Anuvada Sampada, an initiative by the Azim Premji University, is a free open-access digital repository of academic resources translated from English to Indian languages. This repository helps students from diverse backgrounds to explore concepts and ideas currently available only in English. Through this, we hope to promote original writing, reading, deliberation and discourse in Hindi and Kannada.

Through Anuvada Sampada, students, teachers, teacher educators, research scholars and other practitioners working in the field of education, can access high-quality academic resources across disciplines — sciences, social sciences, humanities, and languages.

Translated documents include selected texts, readings from journals, field studies, extracts or complete chapters of books across disciplines. Select articles from our publications based on aspects of school and teacher education are also included in the repository.

Apart from translating and providing access to educational resources, the University, from time to time, has collaborated with leading publishers across Karnataka to bring out relevant books in Kannada. These books are either translated or written originally by academicians or practitioners. The books are in areas such as education, teacher and teaching practices, child development, psychology, literature, teaching and learning social science and languages.

Through these publications, the university wishes to expand the availability of knowledge resources to a much wider network of audience — students, teachers, teacher educators, research scholars, education functionaries, members of civil society organisations, and the general public.

We disseminate information about these resources via digital media and during our events.

As of July 2025, Kannada resources in Anuvada Sampada include

  • 1500 Documents
  • 17 Books

Nakshathragalu is a unique podcast series dedicated to stories of schoolteachers, headteachers and other education functionaries. Currently produced and broadcast in Kannada by Azim Premji University, it features teachers from across Karnataka and other states where Azim Premji Foundation has been actively engaged in the field of school education.

Gurudevo Bhava” is a popular saying in Sanskrit that emphasises teachers’ importance and special role in our lives. Yet, being a teacher is not easy, given the immense challenges that confront our teachers, especially in semi-urban and rural parts of India. It is here that thousands of government school teachers are profoundly committed to improving the lives of the children in their care.

Through Nakshatragalu, we bring to you stories of resilience, dedication, and compassion of these individuals who have gone the extra mile to defy all odds stacked against them and made sure that the children in their schools and localities are well cared for and are learning well.
