How do the many people of the many places of India live? How did the landscapes we know come to be? What is the difference between ‘India’ and ‘Bharat’ and ‘Hindustan’? These are some of the questions we ask in this set of courses to understand India. We look at how India has formed over time– its rocks, rivers, forests and mountains; and in time – through myths, traditions and physical geography. We understand how people, goods, ideas and cultures have come and gone and shaped history and habits over centuries. The coursework includes reading, projects, presentations, maps, art and field trips.
