This course will take introduce you systematically to conventional and interdisciplinary research methods in legal studies as well as techniques for writing a legal dissertation. We will introduce you to theories of knowledge and their significance for legal research, an overview of legal research methods, and help you frame research problems and devise appropriate methods for inquiry from the humanities and social sciences. You will learn the basic ingredients of academic writing which includes literature review, formulating research problems and the structuring of proposals and dissertations. This course includes written assignments, a dissertation proposal and oral presentation.
