Qualitative Approaches to Analysing Public Policy

A survey of qualitative approaches informed by social science methods used and applied in generic policy domains in advocacy, analysis and evaluation.

Here we attempt to understand the confluence of factors that contribute to policy issues that escape quantitative reasoning and statistical modelling. The course builds on the skills developed in the previous courses on research design, variables of interest, and statistical analysis of quantitative data. You will design and undertake a qualitative research project that includes data triangulation strategy and analytical coding techniques for data analysis and NVivo database as part of this procedural course, while exploring the strength and limitations of different data collection methodologies
