Perspectives on Philosophy of Science

Examine scientific and social scientific texts and ideas and evaluate the presuppositions behind them

In this course, you will learn how to examine scientific and social scientific texts and ideas and evaluate the presuppositions behind them. We will help you place scientific change in a historical context and help you understand and apply scientific techniques to social science, engaging in constructive discussions across disciplinary boundaries. We will learn to read understand work in two areas: from physics (special relativity) and from social science (development economics). We hope this course will encourage you to view your own disciplines in a new light and to cross the boundaries between disciplines.
