Sustainability in Practice

What are the ways in which sustainability can be put to practice through development perspective?

The idea of sustainability’ has emerged as an integrative principle to address the daunting challenges posed by environmental crises arising from human activity. Sustainability seeks to explore a path towards addressing challenges of human wellbeing, focusing on the importance of prudent use and equitable access to natural resources for addressing developmental challenges.

The focus of the course is to expose students to the complex issues of sustainability in practice. This goal will be facilitated through exposure to complex real-life cases. The course is centred around discussions of two different sustainability challenges: urban mobility, and municipal solid waste.

These offer the opportunity to examine developmental challenges that illustrate the multiple dimensions of moving towards sustainability in varied and real-life contexts.
