Induction into Teaching

Here you will put into practice and develop your skills as a teacher in a real-world classroom setting.

In this intensive field practice course of the programme, student-teachers will spend close to an entire semester in a school (typically an Azim Premji School). Over this long period of active engagement, student-teachers will gain an understanding of the socio-cultural contexts of the students and teachers in the school. They will learn to be independent teachers who can engage meaningfully and effectively in classroom contexts. They will develop the craft of classroom teaching, exercise their relational capacities with students, and put into practice their pedagogical content knowledge to bring about learning in the students. This transition into a teaching role will be scaffolded and facilitated by Cooperating Teachers, School-based Supervisors, Professional Practice Supervisors, and Subject Faculty Supervisors.
