The written word is an essential resource for the 21^st century. Writing is not only a means of communication (through various contexts, forms and disciplines) but also a means of creative and critical thought. In a country like India with its linguistic diversity, English is not always a first language in which everybody is fluent or familiar, but it is a necessary tool for a degree in higher education. In this course, we train you to learn the language better so that you are able to meet the needs of your courses, use your written skills for understanding ideas and questions. We work on your writing skills for relevant contexts and purposes. We play with different forms and genres. You may write a journal or daily diary entry, a short story or non-fiction essay, critical responses to films or poems, and use words to persuade, argue, express opinions and make sure that all of it avoids errors in punctuation, spelling or grammar.
