Can you imagine how far a passion for education and aiming high can take you? Meet Madhuri Kamtam who hails from a small village in Telangana, the youngest of three sisters and a first-generation learner who started her education at the government run Telangana Social Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society (TSWREIS). After graduation in Economics from Azim Premji University, she completed her masters from SOAS University of London.

My parents are my inspiration, the force behind what I am today. They encouraged me and my sisters to pursue our education as they never had the opportunity to go to school and realise what they missed. They continuously motivate us to take every opportunity that comes our way and not waste any chances. I am privileged by their unconditional support.

Coming to Azim Premji University on a fully funded scholarship was wonderful. The faculty guided me at every step, shaping my career. I am still in touch with them and eternally grateful for their support. Shinoj, my senior at Azim Premji University helped me not only with my application to SOAS but also guided me on the scholarships available and I was able to study on a fully funded Felix scholarship. Steffi Barna, an erstwhile faculty member at Azim Premji University who is still connected to the University on certain projects, pushed me to apply for my PhD. She helped me with my applications, with finding a supervisor and sorting out funding and is part of the reason I am here today.

Realise the power of staying connected with the University community, you can never know what opportunities come your way and can take you places. The world class faculty at Azim Premji University can guide you, they understand the higher education scenario across the world and have a strong network that can help you take a leap in your career. Staying connected with faculty, your mentors, and peers during your degree and after is crucial, either officially or unofficially, this will help you realise your dreams.
