Philosophy of the Environment

In this capstone course, students bring together the different parts of philosophy they have studied in order to analyse problems about the relationship between humans and the environment as well as the value and moral and political status of the environment.

Who is to blame for climate change? What exactly is the reduction of biodiversity and why is it bad? Is the damage caused bad because of how it affects us as humans, or does ethics matter for more than us? What can we do by way of change to take into account the right of non-humans? These questions have shaped the philosophy of the environment. It brings together politics, ethics, epistemology, and metaphysics.
