Introduction to Philosophy
This course equips students with core philosophical capabilities, especially working with others you disagree with, clarity of expression, and building the foundations of rigorous creativity.
This is your introduction to philosophy and will cover the main areas of the subject: epistemology, metaphysics and value theory. You will discuss many topics in each area from your everyday life and read important texts from the enlightenment and ancient Indian traditions. You will learn to evaluate arguments on their validity, offer alternative arguments, think and write with economy and precision and learn the subtle distinctions between ideas. We encourage discussion and a lively exchange of ideas.
