Biography

Before joining Azim Premji University, Deepak completed his Master’s in Ornithology and Conservation Biology from Salim Ali Centre for Ornithology and Natural History (SACON), Coimbatore. For his Master’s dissertation, he worked with Dr. Kavita Isvaran, Centre for Ecological Sciences (CES), Indian Institute of Science (IISc). He looked at the effect of habitat modification in the form of plantations on the anti-predatory behaviour of rock agamas in Rishi Valley, Andhra Pradesh.

He completed BSc Honours from Azim Premji University with a major in Biology and a minor in Education. For his honours, he worked with Dr. Shomen Mukherjee, where he looked at the effect of variation of eucalyptus leaf litter on life-history traits of Microhyla ornata tadpoles and freshwater zooplankton.

Science education interests him and he loves teaching and using different pedagogical ways to teach science. Along with that, he is also intrigued by questions related to ecology. He is particularly interested in understanding the impact of anthropogenic activities on living organisms and how they respond and adapt to them.

He enjoys playing frisbee, table tennis, cooking, and stitching in his free time.
