Reasearch Associate — Biology

We invite applications for the role of Research Associate in Biology. 

In this role you will work towards creating the e‑trade database of Indian alien flora, analyze the data, and communicate the research findings through appropriate platforms. 

Invasion of alien species is ecologically and economically of grave concern. The horticulture trade is one of the major pathways for the introduction and spread of alien plants. In recent years, online trading, also known as e‑trading, has provided a global distribution channel for alien species. This project aims to identify the alien species offered for sale in the Indian e‑commerce sectors and decipher the factors that regulate the e‑trading pattern. The findings of the project will help formulate proactive management measures for future invasion scenarios.

The engagement of the Research Associate for this project will be for 9 months.

Responsibilities:

  • To curate data from multiple online and offline sources and create the e‑trade database of Indian alien flora.
  • Analyze data to address the project objectives.
  • Participate in academic events to disseminate the project findings, co-author articles for science magazines, and to communicate the work updates via social media. 

Qualification and Experience 

  • Master’s degree in Botany, Plant Science, Agriculture, Forestry, or related field 
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office 
  • Demonstrate ability to write and present information 
  • Experience in invasion ecology domain and conducting statistical analysis and creating outputs using R as a programming language, will be an added advantage
