Azim Premji University invites applications for a Faculty position in the area of Physics

Azim Premji University was established in 2010 by the Azim Premji Foundation. The Physics programme at the Azim Premji University aims to develop and provide good undergraduate physics training where curious and hardworking students flourish irrespective of their backgrounds. The focus is on (a) using pedagogical tools suited to understanding physics at a fundamental level (b) creating lab and hands-on learning experiences for students, and (c) creating an inclusive and open environment that enables learning. The desire is to nurture students who develop a sound knowledge of the fundamentals, an appreciation of the physics around them, and also to be socially aware and sensitive individuals. We are looking to recruit for a role in the Undergraduate Physics Programme from those with a background in the experimental sciences. In this role, the successful candidate will be in charge of the laboratories and will be responsible for designing experiments for courses in collaboration with other faculty, handling student research and supervision, managing the laboratories, procuring resources and helping in documentation and outreach The person will have access to research opportunities and support accorded to those in a similar faculty position. Candidates are expected to contribute to the B.Sc. and dual B.Sc. B.Ed. physics programmes at the university as well.

This is a full time Assistant Professor's position with a 2-year probationary period.

Candidates with the following qualifications with 2-3 years of experience (post-doctoral work, industry, teaching) can apply:

  • Bachelor's or Master's in engineering (Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, Electronics, Materials Science) with relevant experience
  • Ph.D. in Physics, Chemistry, Biophysics or related field, OR
  • Master's in Physics, Chemistry or related fields with five or more years of association with research environment

Strong educational interests and experience in laboratory work, designing and creating lab experiments and modules, and teaching laboratory-based courses will be an added advantage.
