Sports Club

Sports Club is one of the most active clubs at the University adding a lot of zest to the student life in the campus. The club aims to promote sports activities among students, giving equal opportunity to all. Enthusiastic students volunteer to take up various responsibilities associated with running the Club. The Club conducts several tournaments every year including Volley Ball, Cricket, Badminton, Chess, Table Tennis and Carrom. Apart from these, there are smaller, more informal events such as Kho Kho and Captain’s Ball scheduled on every Friday. The Club takes up new sports initiatives based on students’ interests and one of the initiatives taken up this year is starting Karate classes with qualified trainers amongst the students doing the teaching.

Azim Premji University Students-Faculty Cricket Match

The fun-filled day of cricket on March 28, 2015 was a rousing success. More than 100 students and 25 faculty/staff members participated, relishing every moment. There were two matches played; the first match between the 2013-15 batch and the faculty was won by the 2013-15 team, and in the second match, the 2014-16 batch won against the 2013-15 batch.

Azim Premji University Football Tournament

The football tournament was flagged off by Sharad Sure, the faculty in charge of the Sports Club on October 16, 2015 at the PES Football Ground. The first match was played between teams Batallion and Barcantakara, which Barcantakara won with a score of 1-0 and qualified for the final round. The second match played between Konappana Fighters and Musketeers United was won by Konappana Fighters with a score of 2-0. Konappana Fighters and Barcantakara played against each other in the final face off,with Konapanna Fighters emerging victorious to lift the trophy

Azim Premji University Chess Tournament

The Sports Club of Azim Premji University organized a Chess Tournament among the students on January 22, 2016. The game was divided into two rounds. The final winners were Yakulan (M.A. Development ’15) and Sneha Jain (M.A. Education ’15).
