Local-level Initiatives

Community members in Basia village of Gumla District have taken the initiative to set up quarantine facilities in their villages unleashing power of Gram Panchayats in Jharkhand which can be replicated across the state. Read more about this initiative here.

Here is an inspiring story from a remote tribal panchayat in Sitlingi, Tamil Nadu where a committed panchayat with active participation of people, the government departments and local hospital staff swung into action to tackle the epidemic. Read more about what the panchayat did here.

Sehar, a women's collective for better health and rights (a unit of CHSJ) and National Alliance for Maternal Health & Human Rights (NAMHHR), is working along with networks of civil society and development practitioners at the grassroots level to ensure that communities are not affected severely. Dept. of Community Medicine, Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences, Sewagram, Wardha has developed community preparedness checklist to be used by Gram Panchayat/Village Committee to assess the preparedness at village level for timely actions for prevention from Covid-19.
