Krishna Kothai has been in the field of development for over three and a half decades, now .He started his career as a Development Banker, occupying positions like - Agricultural Field Officer, Agricultural Project Officer, Principal, Staff Training College, Specialist Faculty, Apex College, Manager, HRD, etc. He was the Founder Director and Founder Executive Director of an organization named Rural Development and Self-employment Training Institute(RUDSETI) in the country which won various awards. These institutes have been accepted as 'model institutes' by the State and Central Governments to be replicated in the other parts of the Country.
After serving 25 years in the bank, Kothai joined Manipal University as the Founder Director of the Centre for Rural Studies and continued for 12 years.
During his long career, Kothai has worked in the areas such as Rural Banking, Agricultural Extension,Rural Projects, Project Evaluation, Consultancy, Self Help Groups, Panchayati Raj Institutions, Community Development, Research, Training etc. He is recognized as a State Level Trainer in the area of Panchayati Raj Institutions in the State of Karnataka. He has the experience of working with various Government and Non-governmentOrganizations like PRIA, PRATHAM, ARGHYAM, CAPART etc.
He has handled various research projects funded by Ford Foundation, UGC, ICSSR, Philips, PRIA,PRATHAM, UNAIDS etc. He has evaluated a large number of Projects of CAPPART(Facilitator cum Evaluator) apart from the ones sponsored by Karl KubelStiftung of Germany, Khadi and Village Industries Commission, Ministry of Rural Development, Ministry of Panchayati Raj,Department of Cooperation,( Govt. of Karnataka), CADA, Shimoga, Department of Public Works( Govt. of Karnataka), Department of Watershed, PURA( Govt. of India) and others.
He has presented papers at both national and international conferences, seminars and workshops. He has books and papers published on various issues related to development. He was the Nodal Agent for the preparation of the 'HUMAN DEVELOPMENT REPORT FOR UDUPI DISTRICT 'which won the 'FIRST EVER NATIONAL AWARD' instituted by the UNDP.
Krishna Kothaihas served on various committees and boards, including the 'Board of Directors, International Society for Third Sector Research' as a Director serving South East Asia.
Kothai, is a post-graduate in Agriculture and has a Ph. D in Rural Development. He was a Junior Fellow of Indian Council of Agricultural Research during post-graduation.
