Interaction with Naseeruddin Shah
Well-known stage and film actor Padma Bhushan Shri Naseeruddin Shah will visit our university on Wednesday, February 24, 2016. He will have an interaction with the students of the open course related to Theatre and Film Appreciation. The programme will be held from 2.00pm to 4.00pm at 10th Floor Seminar Hall, Pixel A Building, Azim Premji University. He will later leave for Sompura for an interaction with the students of the School of Arts and Sciences at 6.00pm.
A Brief Note on the Artiste.
An alumnus of the National School of Drama, Shri Naseeruddin Shah began his acting career in theatre and then made the transition to cinema. He is also an alumnus of the Film and Television Institute at Pune, popularly referred to as the FTII, Pune.
He has been an intrinsic part of the growth and development of what has been popularly referred to as ‘parallel’, ‘middle’, ‘art’ cinema movement. Shri Naseeruddin Shah’s evolution as an actor of both the stage and cinema, which he entered around the mid-1970s, continues to raise the bar of the art form he has chosen.
Aakrosh, Nishant, Sparsh, Mirch Masala, Albert Pinto Ko Gussa Kyon Ata Hai, Trikal, Bhavni Bhavai, Junoon, Mandi, Ardh Satya, Katha, Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro, Paar, Sarfarosh and A Wednesday are some of the landmark films he has acted in. His theatrical productions as actor and director include Waiting for Godot, Dear Liar, Antigone, The Caine Mutiny Court Martial, Einstein, A Walk in the Wood, Katha Collage and Ismat Aapa ke Naam.
Shri Shah has won numerous awards in his career, including three National Film Awards, three Filmfare Awards and an award at the Venice Film Festival. The government of India has honoured him with the Padma Shri and the Padma Bhushan awards for his contributions to Indian cinema.
