About the Programme

The availability of trained professionals in education, development and allied social sectors in India is grossly inadequate, given the scale, complexity of issues and the wide range of competencies required to work in these areas. Azim Premji University’s key mission is to address this significant talent gap and prepare competent, motivated, socially committed graduates and enable them to engage with social sector.

Eligibility

Azim Premji University is deeply committed to having a diverse student profile and the admissions process aims to select candidates who show evidence of:

  • A deep desire to contribute towards education and development in India.
  • Demonstrated independence of thought.
  • Value orientation that is geared towards creating a just, equitable, humane and sustainable society.
Programmes Eligibility
Master of Arts in Education (2 years)
  • Bachelor's Degree in any discipline (including Sciences, Social Sciences, Humanities, Engineering, Medicine, Agriculture, Commerce, Management, etc.) from a recognized University.
  • Undergraduate students who are appearing for their final year examinations and completing their graduation on or before September 2019 are also eligible to apply. The offer of provisional admission is valid only on successful completion of graduation.

Candidates with work experience are actively encouraged to apply. Guaranteed 50% tuition waiver for candidates with 3+ years of work experience. Click here to know more

Master of Arts in Public Policy and Governance (2 years)
LL.M. in Law and Development (1 year)

Bachelor of Laws degree (LL.B. 3years / 5 years) from a recognised University in India or abroad.

Enriching Learning experience

The teaching and learning processes at Azim Premji University are designed to ensure that students and faculty engage each other in dialogue and discussions so that students develop deep critical thinking, self-learning abilities and capabilities for social action. We offer a unique and vibrant environment with multiple opportunities for learning beyond the classroom.

Courses: Foundational understanding of the domain through core courses and over 100 electives for students to choose from. Open courses in art and craft, music, cinema, Literature, Science etc. to expand the students’ horizon.

Faculty: The faculty team of 130 comes with extensive experience in teaching, research and field practice. The teacher-student ratio of 1: 10 enables close support, mentoring and feedback. Click here for details on faculty profiles

Integrated Field Practice: A mix of field experiences spread across all semesters consisting of immersion visits, organizational internships, faculty-mentored research projects and independent field projects.

Vibrant Environment: An engaging class room experience with interactive pedagogic tools. Learning opportunities through various events - weekly colloquiums, national and international conferences, workshops etc.

Learning from Diversity: Students come from almost all states of India with different educational and socio-economic backgrounds, fresh undergraduates and those with work experience. Over 50 percent of our students are women. We value and encourage this diversity and you will enjoy and learn with this experience

Career Opportunities

The social sector today offers a variety of exciting career opportunities for students with a desire to contribute to the development of the country. Students at the University can look forward to fulfilling roles in organizations that engage in grassroots work in the field. They can also look forward to roles in academia, policy think tanks, politics, government programmes, multilateral agencies, corporate social responsibility departments of companies, funding organizations and in the media.

Over 1400 students have graduated and we have an excellent placement record -

  • Close to 90 organizations participate in our campus recruitment every year. These range from large organizations in the NGO space, small organizations at the grass roots, research institutions, policy bodies, CSRs, quasi government institutions, schools etc.
  • The average salary for campus placements is in the range of Rs. 30000 – 35000 per month. Students with prior experience get higher compensation.
  • Students also choose to pursue higher studies or pursue fellowships of interest to them.

Family income of less than Rupees 5 Lakhs per annum will be considered for various categories of scholarships.

We believe that nobody should be denied admissions because of financial constraints. We provide extensive financial assistance for deserving students through full and part scholarships covering tuition fees and accommodation and food charges.

To Apply

Students can apply online on the University website. Applicant has to login through the link on the website and register online with e-mail ID, mobile number and date of birth. On successful registration, an email will be sent to the registered e-mail ID with login credentials to access the form and complete it online. Click here to apply now.

Students can also apply offline. For the Offline Application form the Student have to write to us at admissions@apu.edu.in

The Admission window for the Postgraduate programme will close on January 26, 2019 followed by National Entrance test on February 10, 2019. Interview will be held in March 2019 across the country for shortlisted candidates, offer of admissions will be made in April 2019. Classes will commence in June/July 2019 depending on your programme choice.

Information session

Applicants who complete the form much before the last date will be invited for information sessions in the month January in multiple locations in India.
