KathaVana is a multilingual children’s literature festival organized by Azim Premji University since 2012 to promote interest in reading among school children and introduce them to the rich treasure of stories in various Indian languages.

The festival features book exhibitions, story telling and story reading sessions, meeting authors and illustrators, workshops for teachers and librarians, panel discussions, and fun activities for children and adults.

  • To generate awareness and create visibility for the significant role that literature can play in children’s lives.
  • To showcase some of the best literature in English and different Indian languages
  • To provide opportunities for professional development and learning to teachers, librarians and students of Azim Premji University
  • To generate a dialogue amongst stakeholders on the development and use of children’s literature in educational settings.
  • To build stronger relationships with our partner organizations and practicum-schools.

    It was in Gudalur, an amazing landscape in the Nilgiri district of Tamil Nadu, that I did my two week field immersion. The exposure to the vast share of unseen indigenous knowledge and culture of the Adivasi community in Gudalur was an exciting experience.
